Explore pristine rainforests and coral reefs on one of the best wildlife hotspots on Earth. Visit wildlife rescue centers for orangutans and sun bears, participate in conservation programs, look for birds, elephants, and other wildlife, and snorkel in warm clear waters. 

ITINERARY

Days 1 - 3: Kota Kinabalu / Abai

After your arrival, take some time to explore the town of Kota Kinabalu before catching a flight to Abai. Once at Abai, you will visit the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre and the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Spend the next two days hiking mangrove forests and taking river cruises to look for monkeys, elephants, and more.

You can also participate in a local conservation project, visit local villages, and more.

Overnights at the Tanjung Aru Resort and the Abai Jungle Lodge

Days 4 - 7: Danum Valley

Head upriver to Sukau, keeping an eye out for wildlife like hornbills. Explore the Gomantong Caves, visit the Danum Valley Conservation Area to hike and swim in natural pools, and learn about scientific research at the Danum Field Centre. Overnight at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge. 

Days 8 - 9: Kapalai

After a drive and boat ride on the Celebes Sea, you will arrive at the Ligitan Reefs. For the next two days at the Kapalai Dive Resort, built on stilts over the water and beach, you can dive and snorkel the reef or just relax and enjoy the view.

Days 10 - 11: Kota Kinabalu & Departure

Before you leave, take one last chance to swim the clear blue water and then transfer in the afternoon to the airport for your flight to Kota Kinabalu. Overnight at the Tanjung Aru Resort before your flight home.

Benefitting Organization:

Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre - This new organization is working to care for and release orphaned sun bears and educate people about this endangered bear.

By booking through SEEtheWILD, we will donate 5% of the cost of the trip ($250) to the Centre for their sun bear conservation efforts.
