El Salvador Sea Turtle Service Trip

ITINERARY

Nov 11 - Arrive to El Salvador

After your arrival to San Salvador, you will be met by your guide and taken to Ciudad Romero, a rural community located an hour and a half drive.

Nov 12 - Ciudad Romero

This morning, take a tour of Ciudad Romero, including beautiful murals that show the history of the struggles this town has overcome. In the afternoon, we will meet community leaders working to improve life for local residents and visit a demonstration farm. Overnight in Ciudad Romero.

Nov 13 - Tierra Blanca

Today, the group heads to Tierra Blanca to visit development projects including water and sanitation that are improving life for residents. Also visit a shrimp cooperative, one of the leading sources of employment in the area. In the afternoon, you can either rest or participate in activities with kids at the local daycare cooperative.

Nov 14 - Montecristo

After breakfast, take a boat ride through the mangroves of Jiquilisco Bay, looking for birds and other wildlife. Meet with local cashew farmers and shellfish collectors and have lunch in Montecristo. 

In the afternoon, we visit a cooperative of youth artisans in Las Mesitas as well as mangrove restoration project al El Lloron. At dusk, we'll visit a sea turtle hatchery and help release olive ridley turtle hatchlings. Overnight in Ciudad Romero.

Nov 15 - Costa del Sol

The morning includes visiting local organic farms and meeting the farmers. After lunch, we'll visit the Mangrove Association and an organic cashew roasting cooperative. In addition, we will learn how a community radio project is helping to empower local residents. Tonight, we stay at the beautiful Costa del Sol resort.

Nov 16 - Free Day

Your day is free to take a swim in the ocean and relax on the beach. Our group will reflect on what we have learned and experienced. Overnight at Costa del Sol.

Nov 17 - Depart

Head to the airport in time for your flight home.
