Take an orca whale watching vacation aboard the classic schooner Maple Leaf. This educational cruise will take you beyond the spectacle of just seeing whales and lets you learn about the natural and human history of the area they inhabit.
Expect to spend hours with orcas and humpback whales for days. Wake at anchor in the wilderness, where mists rise up the mountains and spend your day in nature.
ITINERARY
A Note About Orca Whale Watching
On this sailing cruise, the itinerary varies depending on the interests of the guests, and the actions of weather and wildlife. This sample itinerary is meant to give you an idea of the typical trip.
Day 1 - Telegraph Cove
Our trip kickoff includes a visit to Telegraph Cove on the northern part of Vancouver Island and the Alert Bay First Nations cultural centre. Dinner and hotel stay are included.
Day 2 - Wildlife Viewing
Today we board the Maple Leaf, get a ship orientation, and begin sailing. We'll look out for porpoises and dolphins and take an optional evening kayak excursion.
Day 3 - Orcas & More
Today we'll spend watching killer whales for hours. We'll lunch in the company of whales. In the afternoon, we'll do a forest interpretive walk.
Day 4 - Echo Bay
Today includes more sailing, a beach walk, and intertidal life viewing. We can visit remote Echo Bay, part of the Broughton Archipelago where Billy Proctor's Museum fascinates visitors with a collection of historical items from the region.
Day 5 - Fjord Cruising
We'll cruise the majestic mainland fjords, take a walk along a river estuary, and search for bears. Optional activities include kayaking or a zodiac ride.
Day 6 - First Nation Village Visit
Visit an ancient Kwakwaka'wakw village site to learn about their fascinating culture. We'll look for humpback whales and visit whale researchers on Hanson Island.
Day 7 - Return to Port McNeill
On our way back to Port McNeill, we'll include more orca whale watching and exploration.

Excluded: They do not include travel to and from the trip departure and end points, a $100 sustainability fee per person, or tax (for BC trips).
